Coming from a long line of lawyers including a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, David is a skilled advocate and transactional lawyer. He has acted for a variety of clients including but not limited to financial institutions, corporate clients (local and international) and several others.
David has carved a niche for himself as commercial litigator in the areas of banking, maritime law, banking, real estate and property law, insolvency, recoveries and mortgages, employment and criminal law spanning the three tiers of the superior courts of record in Nigeria. As an avid litigator concerned with social justice and expanding the frontiers of the law, David recently broke through the impregnable jurisdictional limitation placed on appeals against judgments of the National Industrial Court which is a Court of first instance and successfully overturned the judgment. He similarly successfully overturned death sentences handed out to two innocent teenagers on allegations of armed robbery as part of the pro bono programme of the Firm. He was also part of the prosecution team that successfully prosecuted and obtained a jail sentence for a former Chief Executive Officer of a major MDA in the maritime sector.
Prior tothe establishment of the Firm, David cut his teeth under seasoned and reputable leading firms in Nigeria and represented several multinational companies, Industry Regulators and organisations.David graduated from the University of Benin in 2000 and was called to the Bar in 2003. Mr. B. J. Bulama is a highly innovative and commercially-oriented lawyer with cognate experience in the legal, energy, transactional, compliance, policy and corporate environments in both the United Kingdom and the Nigerian jurisdictions. He holds an LL.M in Petroleum Law and Policy from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy, University of Dundee, UK. He also holds an LL.B (Hons) (2.1) from University of Jos, Nigeria and BL (2.1) from the Nigerian Law School respectively. Upon qualifying as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria he lectured briefly at the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State, Nigeria and subsequently practised law as a Legal Counsel/Associate in the Law Firm of Kayode (SAN) & Co. in Abuja, Nigeria before proceeding to the University of Dundee for his Post-Graduate studies. He was until his voluntary resignation in February, 2013 a Contracts Manager with SSE Plc, United Kingdom (UK’s 2nd largest energy company).
With 17 years post-call/qualification experience as a lawyer, he is a member of many professional bodies, both national and international. Emonye graduated from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 2001 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2003. He obtained his LLM in Construction Law from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. He was called to the Bar of England & Wales in 2013. He is a notary public of Nigeria.
Emonye’s experience includes work in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. His practice covers both trial and appellate courts. He has been involved in several notable and complex cases several of which he was co-opted by other lawyers (including senior advocates) for his ability to navigate through complex legal issues and proffer comparatively easy yet robust solutions.
